The Arlene and David Schlang Pavilion
" A better way of living for the elderly"

In an effort to provide the fullest range of services for older adults, The Brookdale University Hospital and Medical Center has built 87 units of senior citizen housing, half for assisted living and half for independent living. The Arlene and David Schlang Pavilion has been financed by the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), and is built on Rockaway Parkway between Linden Boulevard and Church Avenue.

The Assisted Living units offer everything a senior citizen might need:  Case management; personal care; nursing; home health aides; physical, occupational and respiratory therapy; speech pathology; audiology; homemaking and food services; and social services.  Medical supervision is provided as needed. Residents can apply directly or be referred to the units by Brookdale or its nursing home, thus, ensuring a continuity of care.  Residents must also meet HUD's age and income requirements.

There are several advantages to living in these senior citizens units.  The atmosphere will be less restrictive than a nursing home and offer a homelike environment for its residents.  Residents are able to "age in place" as conditions change and have services added as needed.  The location is well-served by public transportation and local shopping is available.  Additionally, the units are under the watchful and experienced eye of the medical center; Brookdale has over 30 years experience in housing management.

The Arlene and David Schlang Pavilion completes the array of services already available for older adults at Brookdale:  A certified home healthcare program, a 448-bed nursing home, several primary care sites, outpatient and outreach services, a geriatric mental health program, and kosher "Meals on Wheels."
