- Brookdale University Hospital and Medical Center is a 530 bed not-for-profit teaching hospital.
- BUHMC opened a brand new Coronary Critical Care Unit to accommodate the growing numbers of angioplasty and cardiac patients.
- A separate child friendly pediatric Ambulatory Infusion Unit was built on the pediatric inpatient floor.
- 98,160 patients were seen at the Radutzky Emergency Care Pavilion, 86% of the hospital’s admissions.
- 114,110 patients were seen in BUHMC’s Ambulatory Care Centers; 18,930 patients were treated by the Dental Center.
- 1,633 deliveries were performed at Brookdale Hospital.
Profile:
- Established in April 1921 as a 75-bed building in Brownsville/East New York. In 2000, Brookdale Hospital joined the MediSys Health Network and now serves a community of over one million residents in Eastern Brooklyn.
- The newly expanded Radutzky Emergency Care Pavilion and Level I Trauma Center is one of the busiest in New York. There is a Fast Track Center for urgent/minor injury and illness, separate Pediatric Emergency Department and a newly renovated comprehensive psychiatry emergency department.
- Brookdale has developed a comprehensive network of six ambulatory primary care centers throughout Brooklyn, The Brookdale Family Care Centers.
- BUHMC boasts the first Hyperbaric and Wound Healing Center in Brooklyn. Our two chamber center offers advanced treatment for smoke inhalation, carbon monoxide poisoning, advanced wound healing in conjunction with innovative technology such as ultrasonic debridement, burns, decompression sickness, and radiation tissue injury among others.
- Brookdale Hospital's OB/GYN Department has a 30-bassinet Level III nursery unit that treats low birth weight babies.
- Brookdale Hospital recently opened a brand new fully updated Coronary Critical Care Unit which completes the total renovation of the Cardiology Department that now offers voluntary angioplasty. Other specialized acute-care services include “The Treatment for Life Center”, the only AIDS Designated Center with a long-term in-patient facility in Brooklyn, a Digestive Health Center and an Adult Sleep Center.
- Brookdale's Pediatric Department enjoys an excellent reputation and provides a wide range of services for children from birth to adolescence including: The “Live Light – Live Right” Program, a multi-disciplinary service for the treatment of Pediatric Obesity. In addition, the hospital offers the “Breathe Right! One Child at a Time” educational asthma program, a division of Pediatric Pulmonary Care with a pediatric sleep center to diagnose and treat children with sleep disorders, and a comprehensive centers for the treatment of Sickle Cell Disease and Pediatric Oncology
- Brookdale’s nursing home, the 448 bed Schulman and Schachne Institute for Nursing and Rehabilitation as well as the 86 unit of senior assisted and independent living in the Arlene and David Schlang Pavilion provide both long and short-term care and are conveniently located on the Brookdale campus. The Adult Day Care Program of the Schulman & Schachne Institute provides a quality program for adults and seniors who have functional impairments that require this level of care.
- Brookdale’s Advanced Bariatric Center for Experience in Healthy Weight Loss, a multidisciplinary comprehensive Center of Excellence, has been established to provide specialized and individualized care for patients interested in losing weight and/or contemplating undergoing weight loss surgery.
- Brookdale has acquired the first DaVinci S HD Robotic technology surgical system in Brooklyn to provide its community with state-of-the-art minimally invasive, urologic, gynecologic and general surgery procedures.
