With almost 40 Board-Certified full-time physicians, all of whom are Board-Certified in Internal Medicine and in their respective subspecialties (such as Cardiology or Pulmonary Medicine), the Department of Medicine is made up of several important divisions:

Allergy and Immunology
Treatment for patients afflicted by allergies and evaluation and treatment of patients with recurrent infections, for possible immunodeficiencies.

Division of Cardiology: Full-service heart care.  Diagnostic tests include stress testing, echocardiography, cardiac catheterization and nuclear medicine. Interventional Cardiology services are also available. Our cardiologists perform close to 1,000 catheterizations per year, 5,000 echocardiograms, 2,500 stress tests, Arrhythmia service in our Electro Physiology lab follows nearly 2,500 pacemaker/defibrillator patients, and the cardiology service admits up to 1,600 patients per year.

Endocrinology and Metabolism: Diagnosis and treatment of endocrine disorders such as diabetes and thyroid conditions.

Gastroenterology: Diagnosis and treatment of gastrointestinal, hepatic and nutritional disorders.  Services include a GI Motility Center for chronic and persistent gastroenterological symptoms and an Endoscopy Suite

Hematology/Oncology: Treatment of diseases of the blood and all types of cancer. Brookdale is one of the largest voluntary hospitals in Brooklyn servicing a major portion of the borough spanning the gamut from diagnosis to terminal.

Infectious Diseases: Assessment, consultation, treatment and monitoring for recurrent and/or serious infections.  Under this division's auspices is the Treatment for Life Center , a State - Designated AIDS Center, including an 18-bed inpatient Infectious Diseases service and a 120 bed in-patient AIDS unit.

Nephrology and Hypertension: Full range of services for diseases of the kidney and for high blood pressure (hypertension); Including a Renal Hypertension Clinic, Ambulatory Dialysis Clinic and Renal Transplant Clinic.

Pulmonary Medicine: Treatment of lung diseases, including asthma, emphysema, cancer, chronic bronchitis and tuberculosis. Under this division, the Department of Respiratory Therapy is medically supervised. This division also directs the Medical Intensive Care Unit and the Division of Critical Care
