Welcome to the Pastoral Care Program at Brookdale University Hospital and Medical Center.

The Brookdale University Hospital and Medical Center has a full time Pastoral Care Department. Rev. Carlos De la Pena is the director and chaplain of the department. The Chaplain is provided to Brookdale in partnership with The Health Care Chaplaincy, a multifaith community of professionals committed to the advancement of pastoral care, education and research. Pastor De la Pena is assisted by more than 60 Pastoral CareVolunteers, who help meet the religious and spiritual needs of patients and residents.

The Pastoral Care staff goes on patient care rounds and accepts referrals from the Brookdale staff, family members, and friends. If someone needs the counsel of a religious representative from a specific faith group, a member of the Pastoral Care department will arrange it.

Additionally, the department coordinates religious observances onsite for various holidays, memorial services, and other educational opportunities as they relate to spirituality and religion.

The Department conducts a 35-hour training program, twice yearly, and seeks people of various faith groups who are interested in volunteering with Pastoral Care. In order to learn more about volunteering or to refer a patient/resident, call 718-240-5817, or 718-240-5824.
