Orthopedic Surgery
Chairman/Shepard H. Splain, DO, FACS
The Department of Orthopedic Surgery is responsible for the treatment of injuries and illnesses of the musculoskeletal system in all ages, and includes a division for sports medicine.
The residency program is a component of the Orthopedic Training program at the State University of New York Health Science Center at Brooklyn. The five-year program is divided among orthopedic surgery, general surgery and allied specialties according to the requirements of the Board of Orthopedic Surgery. Twenty-five residents utilize five different hospitals, including Brookdale, which is unique in that it provides a psychomotor skills laboratory. The laboratory allows Orthopedic residents to gain hands-on experience in operative orthopedic procedures.
Appointments to the residency program are through the National Interns and Residents Matching Plan, and all inquiries should be directed to: The Residency Program in Orthopedic Surgery, State University of New York Health Science Center at Brooklyn, Box #30, 450 Clarkson Avenue, Brooklyn, NY 11203. |
