The Department of Pathology is staffed by six full-time, board-certified pathologists and is accredited by the College of American Pathologists. Consultants in neuropathology, oral pathology and dermapathology actively participate in departmental activities.

The department includes active surgical pathology, cytopathology and autopsy services. Electron microscopy and a large variety of immunohistochemical techniques are available and are frequently utilized in diagnosis, teaching and investigation.

House staff education is supported by interdepartmental clinical-pathological teaching conferences and by the ready availability of the pathology staff for consultation and discussion of cases. The department maintains teaching collections of microslides, specimen photographs and photomicrographs, as well as a library of pathology-related journals and textbooks. Elective rotations in pathology are available to house staff by arrangement with the chairman of the department.
