Rehabilitation Medicine

The Department of Rehabilitation Medicine is staffed by three full-time board-certified physiatrists and provides consultative, therapeutic and specialized diagnostic services to patients throughout the medical center.

A comprehensive electrodiagnostic laboratory is extensively utilized to aid in the identification of neuromuscular disorders. Available procedures include motor and sensory nerve conduction studies, electromyography, chronaximetry and intensity duration plotting.

Modern and comprehensive physical facilities are located both at the hospital and at the two adjoining nursing homes. A wide range of physical therapy services are available at all institutions, including hydrotherapy, therapeutic exercise, electrotherapy and prosthetic evaluation. Occupational therapy is ongoing at the Schulman Institute and includes functional and kinetic therapy, as well as fabrication of splints and adaptive devices. A program is presently in place in Occupational Therapy at the hospital.
