Living Facilities
Brookdale offers excellent living accommodations to house officers and their families in two multi-story, air-conditioned apartment houses where studio, one- and two-bedroom suites with terraces are available at modest rentals. In addition, night on-call rooms are provided for house officers who live away from the hospital. Meals are available during the evening hours for those on duty. A five-story parking garage is physically linked to the hospital. As a convenience to its many visitors and staff who are Orthodox Jews, there is an elevator that operates automatically on the Sabbath and holy days, and Kosher meals are available.

Medical Library
The Marie Smith Schwartz Medical Library contains an extensive collection of books and journals. The professionally staffed library also offers audiovisual materials, computer-aided instruction on a variety of clinical disorders, reference and bibliographic searches, both mediated and end-user on-line access to National Library of Medicine-MEDLAR databases, interlibrary loans, and photocopy services. Located on the main floor of the Samuel and Bertha Schulman Institute for Nursing and Rehabilitation, the library is open from 9am - 7pm Monday to Friday with 24 hour access for residents with photo ID.

Research and Conferences
House officers are encouraged to participate in research and to attend meetings, conferences and board review courses with all expenses paid by the hospital. Individuals who attend these meetings report on them at staff conferences.

Vacations
House officers receive four weeks vacation during each year of service to the hospital.

Selection of Residents and Visiting Staff
Candidates for residencies and fellowships are selected on a competitive basis. Special preference in appointments to Attending staff is given to physicians who receive their house staff training at Brookdale.
